Not really. Is what built for office effectiveness. XP had it's problems with games, but it was a hell of a lot better than 98SE, which was a piece of fucking crap.
Windows 95 ftw!
I don't plan to upgrade for another year and a half. By then, hopefully shit will be worked out. And, Gryph, I played a game for 98SE last night.. hell I played a game for a Commadore last night.

I dont know mate, I started at DDM here on an AMD 1.6 with 98se and it never failed. It ran lean and mean and in all reality gave this current machine a run for stability and reliability. This hunk o junk is an AMD 3500+ , 1 gig or ram, pci-e mb,6600gt cards, 22'' lcd screen..seems it is for ever needing a kick and a slap to keep running smoothly. Granted 98se is very secure and not very flash but it was an easy machine to run,o/c and work on for games. XP pro and vista (from what I hear) dont like the "whats this wire do, and if I put the screwdriver here and turn whilst its running " too much.. Pong ftw. :)

i never had a problem with 98se ,,but my ol lady was constantly fighting with it ,,,guess it all depends on who's runnin the comp
altho i am now havin problems with this comp and the comp upstairs bieng on the same network ,,since i think they are shareing an ip,,on the router and i can't figure out how to change it???? i still have my pong
Subject:
Make sure both of the comps are set to automatically assign ips in Windows and the Router.
Subject: Re: Windows Vista
yeppers did that ,,and since both were my comp at one point in time ithink it still see the older one as the main ,,as well as this one ,,so it gives a ip conflict ,,,hence the reason i can always tell that comp upstairs is on the internet cause it screws mine up :x
Subject:
Assign the IP in the one upstairs. The one downstairs is probaly ends in 100 or 101, set the upstairs one to 125.

it shouodn't hand out a conflict like that, but if that is what is happeneing it can be fixed by giving one a static IP like Shado said. I usually go with .99 since it isn;'t i n the DHCP pool. You can check their IP's and see if it is a conflict by doing ipconfig from the command prompt.
I would check that first, but if they are both set to dhcp then the router shouldn't be handing out conflicts like that. Sometimes the router will be working in bridge mode, so the coimputer actuall gets an IP address from the outside. Most commercial modems can only have one IP address behind them... whgich should be the router, then the router handles all trafic to your two machines. If the router gets set to bridge mode, only one device behind it can tAlk at a time. Checking the IP addresses on the machin es when the problem comes up should tell you what's going on though.

My wife has Vista on her lap top... It's like pulling teath on figuring out what's what because of the way they changed the names on directories and funtions. So far I'm in the "I hate Vista" side... But who knows, I didn't like windows when it came out... Bring back DOS... :P
